The 2017 season marks Coach Bland's 28th as a high school coach and 19th as a head coach. He began his coaching career at Santa Ana High School in Santa Ana, CA, as a freshman football coach and varsity scout. He then spent five years at Orange High School in Orange, CA, the last three as head football coach. At Orange, Coach Bland assisted in guiding the 1990 team to a 2nd place CIF Division VIII finish and was head coach of the 1991 and 1992 Century championship teams. He then spent five years as head football coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in Auburn, WA before moving to Issaquah High School in 1999.

Coach Bland first tenure at Issaquah began in 1999 and continued until the 2005 football season. During that time, his 2002 and 2003 teams finished atop the KingCo 3A league as champions with the 2003 team finishing third in State with a 12-1 record. His teams have had multiple winning experiences against both Bellevue and Skyline High Schools.

Coach Bland assisted Steve Gervais in 2007 and Mat Taylor in 2008 as Skyline's offensive line coach. The combined record of both teams was a perfect 28-0 including two KingCo and two Washington State football titles. After a short hiatus, Coach Bland returned to Issaquah in 2011 and 2012 as an assistant coach responsible for the offensive line before once again taking over as the head coach in 2014.

Coach Bland has received numerous accolades for his work as a football coach including 1999, 2003 & 2015 KingCo Coach of the Year, 2015 Washington State Coaches Association District 8 Coach of the Year and the Seattle Seahawks Coach of the Week in 2002 & 2003.

Coach Bland has taught at Issaquah High School for 18 years and currently teaches physical education and the iVision video production program. He and his wife Barbara have been married for 28 years and have two children. Their son Austin, is currently a student in the Northwestern University Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling.  Their daughter, Victoria, is living near Tokyo and teaches English to elementary school-aged children.

“A football team needs players of all shapes, sizes, and skills to be successful. That is true of a football program as well, it takes all different types of people, players and coaches to make a program successful. That is why I believe football is the greatest team sport and a great vessel to teach life lesson to the young men in our program. Thank you for your support of the football program and high school athletics in general. I feel blessed to be a part of the Issaquah High School community.” –Coach Bean

The schools and teams following Bellarmine include: USNA (played 1 year), University of Santa Clara (where he was a four-year starter, letterman, and captain of the football team, a two-time 1st team Academic All-American and was awarded the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship). He also attended the USC School of Law and Harvard Business School, majoring in Law, Business and Political Science.

His coaching experience includes: Bellarmine College Prep CA, Secondary (1 year), University of Santa Clara CA, OLBs (1 year), Issaquah Youth Football DC (2 years) and Issaquah High School Varsity and Frosh (10 Years). Mark's professional life consists of: CEO Aegis Technologies Group (19 years), CEO Tiercel Security Solutions (2 years), Retired U.S. Navy Captain (32 years) and an Attorney, member of the Washington State Bar Association (28 years).

His son Ryan was a three year IHS football varsity letterman, an All-KingCo defensive back, and a member of the 2008 team that went to the 4A State championship game, and won the 4A Academic State Championship. He and his family have been going to Issaquah football games for more than fifteen years. It was a special thrill to watch Ryan and his friends grow up playing football, initially for Issaquah Youth, and ultimately Issaquah High. Coaches often speak of the impact that playing football in a quality football program might have on the development of a young man. As parents of a young man that was able to participate in an elite high school football program, they were able to experience first-hand the immense impact Issaquah Football had on their son and family.

Position: Special Teams Coordinator / Defensive Line

This will be Coach Miller’s 1st year at IHS and his 21st overall. His last 20 years were at Newport HS (10 as asst. coach and 10 as Head coach from 2004-13). He’s originally from Everett and played football under legendary coach Terry Ennis at Cascade HS before moving on to play for CWU. Coach Miller was Kingco coach of the year in 2012. His teams have made numerous playoff appearances, won the Scholastic State Championship (highest team GPA in the state for 4A schools), and won the Kingco Sportsmanship Award. 5 former players are currently playing DIV I

Coach Miller is entering his 23rd year as a teacher at Newport HS. He and his wife Tanna have two children and live in Issaquah. Their daughter Paisley is a ’17 IHS grad and is currently attending college in Arizona. Their son Caden is a sophomore at IHS and is member of the football team. Coach Miller’s goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of those around him.

issaquah_high_school__reese_cloyd.jpg
Position: Defensive Backs

This is his 5th year in coaching, his first year he was at Garfield high school as a volunteer where he helped with the defensive backs. The next season Coach Cloyd joined the Issaquah staff thanks in most part to his good friend and fellow coach Ian Bachman.

Coach Cloyd played football at Tahoma high school for long time head coach Tony Davis and his  position coach Curtis Bogan, who really planted the seed in his mind that he could become a good coach some day. During his time at Issaquah, he’s coached both defensive back positions and is focused on the corner position this season.

Coach Cloyd is also very excited to be the head JV coach this year, helping the program develop the younger less experienced players. As a WSU graduate, he still is a little uncomfortable wearing purple and gold but the kids and staff that surround him make it a little easier. GO EAGLES!
